There are plenty of success stories when it comes to Chelsea’s recent summer transfer window, however one former target looks as if he’d have been a real star.
The Blues spent big money again over the summer, as they looked to give backing to Enzo Maresca after he brought two trophies back to Stamford Bridge after his first campaign in charge.
Joao Pedro and Estevao Willian have been amongst the most successful additions Chelsea have made to their squad so far this season, with Pedro making his mark particularly in the Club World Cup.
The Blues also added Liam Delap to their ranks, but have not been able to see the best out of him due to a hamstring injury that will end up ruling him out for a number of months.

Chelsea’s transfer window would have been even better with Nick Woltemade signing
He was not the only number nine they were strongly linked with over the summer, with the Blues registering serious interest in Nick Woltemade.
The German striker starred in the U21 European Championships, leaving Chelsea one of the strongly interested sides in a deal to sign him.
The Blues even tried to have a meeting to discuss signing Woltemade, however in the end decided to go another direction with the rest of their business.
Newcastle swooped in and signed him for £69m, before they eventually parted ways with Alexander Isak.
Their lack of options up front though after Delap’s injury saw them recall Marc Guiu from what could have been a very promising loan spell at Sunderland.

Woltemade starring for Newcastle
It has not taken the striker long to adapt to life in the Premier League, with him already finding the net three times in his first four games in England.
This has carried over into the Champions League too. He scored on his only start in that competition to make it a very decent start to the season for him.
Pedro is currently six games without a goal for the Blues, however it has been noted that he has featured in all three games where a Chelsea player was sent off, one of them being him.
Maresca would love another serious attacking option in his ranks, and must only be looking in envy that they missed out on Woltemade.
