Chelsea’s Cole Palmer will be pleased to see his England colleagues doing well at this year’s World Cup.
Argentina are the only thing that stand between England and a first World Cup final since 1966.
Unfortunately for Palmer, he will not be involved in Wednesday’s semi-final after being left out of Thomas Tuchel’s squad.
It is something that the attacking midfielder seemed to have accepted. But not being part of England’s success will sting, as will missing the Three Lions’ potential rematch against Spain in the final.

Missing potential Spain rematch will frustrate Cole Palmer
Palmer was, of course, part of the England squad who lost the Euro 2024 final to Spain.
The Chelsea star started on the bench that day, but he came on in the second half and managed to score a fantastic equaliser after Gareth Southgate’s men went 1-0 down.
England still went on to lose the game and the European Championship trophy, but if Tuchel’s side beat Argentina on Wednesday night, they will have a shot at revenge in football’s biggest game: the World Cup final.
As for Palmer, if England do reach the final, he will have to watch from home, knowing that the Three Lions’ opponents are a team he can hurt.
Has Cole Palmer been wronged? Or is it just deserved for his poor form?🤔
If England lose, Palmer will not be able to stop thinking about how he could have impacted the game and won his country their first World Cup in 60 years. If Palmer were not frustrated with Tuchel, he will be now.
Palmer is also a very confident lad. The 24-year-old will feel that he is a better player than the likes of Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke.
And while Palmer would have to admit that he did not have the best season, he still outscored both Eze and Madueke in the Premier League.
Nevertheless, by his high standards, Palmer was still not good enough last term. It is now up to Xabi Alonso to get the best out of Palmer so that the former Manchester City man can get back into the England squad and help Chelsea to compete for trophies again.
