Cole Palmer made a prediction about Chelsea teammate Levi Colwill last year that is slowly becoming true this season.
Chelsea talisman Cole Palmer, 22, has started well in his second season at Stamford Bridge. The attacking playmaker has one goal and four assists from six games across all competitions so far, although he was kept quiet in the weekend’s win over Bournemouth.
Speaking via PA Media recently, Blues head coach Enzo Maresca warned Palmer he’s now got a target on his back. This comes after he was man marked versus Bournemouth, which is a tactic we may see more from opposition teams moving forward.
As for Levi Colwill, he’s equally started the new campaign in impressive form.
The 21-year-old central defender is thriving in Chelsea’s backline as a key figure, playing every minute in the Premier League so far. Colwill expressed his desire during pre-season to Maresca to play centre-back, something which has worked perfectly so far. He certainly looks a lot more comfortable in the heart of defence than when he’s covering at left-back.

Cole Palmer prediction on Levi Colwill is coming true
It’s very interesting to look back at what Palmer said about Colwill in 2023 because his prediction is starting to come to life.
Speaking back in October 2023, Palmer predicted that Chelsea teammate Colwill has the potential and ability to go to the very top of the game.
Palmer told Sky Sports Premier League: “I think he can go to the very top. He’s got every single attribute that you want in a centre-back and he’s humble.”
We’re certainly not suggesting that Colwill is near the top of the game yet, but there’s no denying he’s taking massive strides forward. In particular, the left-footed centre-half appears to be a great fit under Maresca.
The ball-playing defender has been really eye-catching at the back in the opening weeks of the league campaign. Based on what we’ve seen so far, Colwill is starting to establishing himself as Chelsea’s premium centre-back.
We think Palmer’s prediction is slowly coming true, so Colwill is definitely a player to watch out for as the season progresses.
Chelsea’s best defence
Colwill is going to get to the top a lot faster if the Chelsea backline finds consistency.
It’s been positive to see him partner Wesley Fofana in the early weeks of the season, which is a combination we’ve got high hopes for.
In terms of the full-back positions, Marc Cucurella has the left-back spot nailed down. Meanwhile, Malo Gusto is fantastic at right-back during the times Reece James is absent through injuries.
When fit, we think this would be Chelsea’s strongest back four:
James-Fofana-Fofana-Cucurella
