Chelsea legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has been discussing Cole Palmer’s omission from the England squad for the World Cup.
Tuchel shocked many by leaving Palmer out, with the German preferring Jude Bellingham, Morgan Rogers and Eberechi Eze for the No.10 position.
Palmer did not have the best season but is still one of the Premier League’s top players, hence the surprise surrounding his exclusion.
Has Cole Palmer been wronged? Or is it just deserved for his poor form?🤔
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and others ignoring Levi Colwill in England squad selection debates
Hasselbaink would have taken Palmer to America, though he understands Tuchel’s decision to leave him at home. Levi Colwill was another omission, but very little has been said about him.
Speaking on talkSPORT, the Chelsea legend said: “Cole Palmer, I would have taken him, but I do understand why Tuchel hasn’t taken him because he hasn’t had the best season he could have had.”
Colwill played little football last season because of an ACL injury, but he returned towards the end of the campaign and made such an impact that Tuchel included him in his preliminary squad.
The 23-year-old did not make the cut, but perhaps he should have. Again, Colwill made a positive impact after returning from injury, while England do not have too many central defenders like him.
Tuchel is blessed with attacking talent, so Palmer’s omission may not be felt. However, the German does not have too many left-sided centre-halves who are comfortable in possession and can bring the ball out like Colwill.

It is amazing that more is not being made of his absence from the 26-man squad, though many will feel that the World Cup has simply come too soon for someone who has just recovered from an ACL injury.
Trevoh Chalobah was also left out despite being pretty consistent during the 2025/26 campaign, but Palmer is the Chelsea star who continues to be the subject of debates.
Jamie Carragher has discussed Palmer as well. Like Hasselbaink, he also would have taken the former Manchester City man.
Unfortunately for Palmer, Colwill and Chalobah, though, they will all have to watch England on the television this summer.
