No wins and no goals, one Chelsea star’s Premier League record vs Liverpool is absolutely horrific

One Chelsea attacker does not have too many fond memories from his games against Liverpool.

Chelsea host Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday, and Enzo Maresca will really need his forward line to step up.

There will be no Cole Palmer following his groin injury, which is why Maresca will be asking for more from the likes of Joao Pedro, Pedro Neto and Alejandro Garnacho.

In the past, though, Garnacho has not been able to deliver against Liverpool, which is worrying ahead of Saturday’s game.

Alejandro Garnacho’s Premier League record against Liverpool

At Manchester United, Garnacho faced Liverpool on five occasions in the Premier League. He failed to win any of them.

Across those games, the winger could not find the back of the net either — far from promising heading into the weekend.

Garnacho will at least take a bit of momentum into the fixture after his contribution to Chelsea’s 1-0 win against Benfica in the Champions League.

It was the 21-year-old who helped Chelsea to grab their only goal of the game after Richard Rios was forced to turn his cross into Benfica’s net.

The Argentina international looked pretty confident on the night. Garnacho was heard yelling for the ball whenever he found himself in space on the left flank.

What Enzo Maresca has been telling Alejandro Garnacho to do in games

Garnacho was able to deliver a dangerous ball across the six-yard box after arriving at the back post. It is an instruction that Maresca has given him for the season.

As Garnacho discussed his role in Benfica’s own goal, he said: “When, in this case, Pedro Neto crosses, I always have to be there [at the back post] and then things like this can happen. This time it’s an own goal, but it’s still a goal and so it’s good.”

This Saturday, you would expect Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate to deal with things much better compared to Rios, who is not even a defender.

Again, Garnacho and the rest of Chelsea’s attack will have to play the perfect game in Palmer’s absence if they are to pick up a positive result. After losing back-to-back matches to Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester United, they need one.
