There was scepticism surrounding Chelsea’s move to sign Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United last summer. Now, 12 months later, Chelsea fans are hoping Garnacho departs.

A player with undoubted talent, Chelsea decided to spend as much as £40m on Garnacho last summer. An Argentina international and a player capable of magic, there was hope Garnacho could really shine.

But Man United had also grown fed up with Garnacho. His tantrums, his body language, and ultimately, his inconsistency. Opposing fans would often boo Garnacho simply because of his utter petulance.

A year after joining Chelsea, fans have grown tired of Garnacho’s whinging on the pitch. His inability to track back and work as part of a team. Chelsea fans want him gone, and finally, there is now a suitor.

Chelsea will feel relieved at the latest Alejandro Garnacho news

According to Alfredo Pedulla late on Thursday evening, Roma have made an enquiry to sign the former Man United winger this summer. Garnacho has a contract at Chelsea until the summer of 2032.

Given the length of his contract at Stamford Bridge, Pedulla reports on his website that Roma have suggested a loan deal. Roma are keen to sign two new attackers to go alongside Donyell Malen.

The other is Mason Greenwood, who is expected to leave Marseille this summer and a return to English football remains very unlikely. Garnacho, having played for two English clubs, is likely to go abroad.

Where else could Alejandro Garnacho end up this summer?

It will be interesting to see if Chelsea would accept a loan deal. Certainly, Chelsea would need some sort of an option included if they were to let Garnacho depart temporarily, with a permanent sale preferred.

River Plate are said to have made an ambitious move to lure Garnacho back to his home nation this summer. There may also be a chance that he remains at Chelsea, with Xabi Alonso yet to take a look.

Pre-season starts next Thursday at Chelsea and Garnacho will be among the first group of players to return to the summer sessions under Alonso’s stewardship. There is a world where Alonso is impressed.

But if Alonso has watched any of last season back, and the chances are he has, he will surely align with fans in that Garnacho needs to go. Paul Scholes has suggested Atletico Madrid, but no links as of yet.
