Chelsea are one of a number of top teams who are set to make an effort to sign Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap this summer.
The Blues hold a long-term admiration of the England youngster, with Enzo Maresca an admirer of Delap after working with him in the Manchester City academy.
Delap is keen on joining Chelsea, with any addition in the position coming in knowing they will be competing with Nicolas Jackson for a place in the side.
The Blues have learned of a £40m relegation release clause in the striker’s contract, which is likely to become active due to Ipswich’s poor campaign.
Despite proving himself at the top level this season, Delap has previously made a strong impression on English football when on loan at Hull City, where Liam Rosenior is in charge.

Liam Rosenior a huge fan of Chelsea transfer target Liam Delap
The current Strasbourg manager was wowed by Delap during their time together, and tipped him to make it at the very top due to his versatility.
He said to Hull Live: “He’s (Delap) making a difference. His goal is special, he’s a special, special talent. Aaron’s goal is special because he’s a special, special talent.
“I think Liam’s consistency is improving as well. He’s getting better and better and better in his time with us and he’s going to be a huge threat for us for the rest of the season. He can play anywhere on the pitch, he’s that good. He’s naturally a number nine. He’s a number nine with a lot of technical and physical capabilities and speed.
“For him to play out on the side, sometimes it’s just going to improve his game. I think he’s what, 20 years old? It’s scary, his potential and ability and hopefully, I get the chance to work with him a lot longer than the next few months.”
Chelsea’s first choice frontline is fluid, and often Jackson will do some of his best work in the wide areas in order to create space for his teammate.
While the Blues do need alternative methods of scoring goals, having someone who can do a similar job to Jackson when he is not playing will be crucial, given how much they have missed him during his recent injury woes.

Liam Rosenior making great impression at BlueCo sister club
Rosenior is turning heads due to his excellent work at Strasbourg, with the Ligue 1 side serious contenders for qualification for European football next season.
Chelsea loanees Andrey Santos and Djordje Petrovic have enjoyed brilliant spells at the club this season, with them having a great chance of making a serious impression on Maresca’s first team next season.
A number of sides in England have taken note of what Rosenior is doing with the youngest squad in Europe, and even Chelsea will no doubt be keeping tabs on the young manager for if they need to replace their head coach in the coming seasons.
