The statistics which prove Chelsea were actually right not to sign ‘world-class’ striker this summer

With all the big name signings Chelsea made over the summer, they decided in the end not to strengthen one role in particular.

Despite many names being linked, the Blues decided not to sign a new first team striker to compete with who they already had at the club.

Chelsea have a lot of faith in Nicolas Jackson to come good at the top level, and seem to be proving that with the amount of minutes they have given him this season.

It was reported that they were making efforts all the way until the final few moments of the transfer window to try and complete the signing of Victor Osimhen.

Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel has been a huge advocate of Osimhen, with him making it very clear he wanted to the club to complete the deal.

Victor Osimhen’s stats prove Chelsea were right not to sign him

Jose Mourinho has previously described him as ‘world-class’ – as per All Nigerian Soccer – and said he would loved to have signed him if he had the chance over the summer.

He eventually made the move to Galatasaray on loan, with there being the chance that he could be leaving as soon as January.

Last night saw the striker make his second appearance in the Europa League this season, starting in the 4-3 win over Elfsborg.

According to FotMob, the Nigerian international missed two big chances in that game, adding to the remarkable four he missed in their opening game in Europe.

Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku performing well for Chelsea

The minutes up front at Chelsea this season have been split between Jackson and Christopher Nkunku, who is likely to start tonight in the Conference League.

When looking at the stats of all three players this season, it seems there would be no upgrade if Osimhen was wearing a Chelsea shirt.

It feels as if the Blues made signings this summer to plug gaps in their squad. The deadline day addition of Jadon Sancho gave them a new profile out wide.

While reports have not gone away that Chelsea could consider signing Osimhen in the future, it seems they made the right call to walk away this summer.
