The three players who have to leave Chelsea in January including £200k-a-week international

Because of the sheer size of Chelsea’s squad, Enzo Maresca has not been able to give everyone opportunities in the Premier League this season.

It means that some expensive players and really talented footballers at Chelsea have had to sit out.

However, with the January transfer window open, they could have an opportunity to leave Stamford Bridge.

With that in mind, here are three players who have to leave Maresca‘s squad in the new year.

Ben Chilwell

Ben Chilwell should have left Chelsea in the last transfer window. Though Maresca did reintegrate the defender back into his first-team squad, it became very apparent early in the summer that the Italian was not his biggest fan.

Since then, Chilwell has failed to make a single competitive start for Chelsea and was not even registered for their Conference League squad.

Chilwell is on a £200,000-a-week contract in west London. He is not playing and Chelsea are paying the England international huge money.

Ultimately, no one is winning here, so a permanent departure would be best for all parties.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

Chelsea only signed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City in the summer, but the midfielder has only been getting minutes in the Conference League.

He was excellent in the Championship last season, coming up with 26 goal contributions in 44 appearances, and was the subject of interest from Brighton & Hove Albion before his move to Stamford Bridge.

Simply put, Dewsbury-Hall is probably good enough to start for any team outside of the Premier League’s top six.

Considering that, there could be interest in the 26-year-old in January, interest that he should not ignore.

Carney Chukwuemeka

Carney Chukwuemeka joined Chelsea from Aston Villa back in 2022 as an exciting young talent.

However, things have not worked out for him, largely because of injury. Chukwuemeka is fit again, but he cannot get a game under Maresca.

At his age and with his talent, the 21-year-old needs to be playing. Chukwuemeka had been linked to AC Milan, but a report from football.london claims that he will not be joining the Italian club.

He needs game time, though, so his people should be trying to find him another team if a switch to Milan really is off the table.
