Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel made an announcement this week that has completely wrecked the reported plans of Saul Niguez.

Tuchel confirmed earlier this week that those Blues players not away on international duty will get a full week off to rest. The German boss has decided to allow members of his squad and staff the time to recharge their batteries ahead of what will be a hectic winter schedule.

It’s going to be a great time to rest for certain individuals. However, this sounds like dreadful news for Chelsea midfielder Saul.

Saul’s plan totally ruined

Saul, 26, has had an underwhelming start since joining in the summer on loan from Atletico Madrid. He’s made only five Chelsea appearances so far.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

The Telegraph previously reported that Saul was eyeing this November international break as the perfect time to turnaround his time at Stamford Bridge. It was mentioned that the Spanish midfielder would “work intensively” with Tuchel to help improve his game. Also, he’s looking to adapt his style to the Premier League.

It’s a kick in the teeth for Saul that any work will be done away from the training pitches, though.

The left-footed central midfielder needs more minutes on the grass getting used to the physicality and speed of the English game.

He can work on his conditioning away from Cobham but it’s difficult to replicate a match environment.

Will he play more?

For Saul, this loan at Chelsea has not gone to plan so far. It’s worth noting that there has been plenty of rotation by the manager this season, though, and the fixtures will come flooding in after the current international break.

Tuchel praised his display against Southampton in the Carabao Cup back in October. Meanwhile, Pat Nevin suggested back in September he’s a good signing for the Blues.

Saul is going to need to do his own independent work if he’s going to make a run at getting in the Chelsea line-up.

Unfortunately, he’s up against some top-class central midfielders in teammates such as N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho.
