Two winners and two losers from Chelsea signing Joao Pedro, including Estevao Willian

Joao Pedro is set to become a Chelsea player, with the forward about to join the Blues from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Newcastle United also wanted to sign him this summer, but Pedro only has eyes for Chelsea in a blow to the Magpies.

The 23-year-old’s imminent move to Stamford Bridge could also be a blow for a couple of players already at Chelsea.

However, there are set to be some beneficiaries from his arrival as well. Who are they exactly? The Chelsea Chronicle has taken a look.

Winners

Estevao Willian

In terms of winners, another new signing, Estevao Willian, is likely to be one. Estevao is only 18 years of age and about to leave his country for the first time.

Having another Brazilian at Chelsea could help him settle at the club and in London. Little things like that, especially for a young player, cannot be overlooked. It could ultimately be the difference between Estevao being able to make an impact in his first season or not.

Liam Delap

Taking the dreaded No.9 shirt at Chelsea, there is pressure on Liam Delap. The 22-year-old will be expected to score goals for Enzo Maresca‘s side.

However, another forward with a much larger price tag being in the squad will shift a lot of that pressure away from him. Simply put, more eyes are likely to be on Pedro.

Losers

Nicolas Jackson

Pedro’s imminent arrival means more competition for Nicolas Jackson. His game time could drop significantly next season, that is if the Senegal international even remains at Chelsea.

It is being reported that Arsenal have Jackson on their radar as they look to bolster their forward line.

Mykhailo Mudryk

It has been a terrible summer for Mykhailo Mudryk, who remains banned from football and has had his No.10 shirt taken away from him.

When he returns — whenever that may be — the Ukrainian will find Pedro and Jamie Gittens ahead of him in the pecking order.

Pedro can play on the left — Mudryk’s preferred position — and you would expect Maresca to use him there at times. It is believed that Maresca admires Pedro’s versatility, hence why Chelsea have decided to go after him.
