‘Unlucky’ Chelsea player has actually been their best performer of pre-season

Chelsea are now set to fly home from the United States and complete their Premier League preparations after completing their pre-season tour.

There was just one victory for the Blues under Enzo Maresca, which may look on paper to be really disappointing after their unbeaten campaign under Mauricio Pochettino 12 months ago.

Last night saw them take on Champions League holders Real Madrid, with them falling short and being defeated 2-1.

The game was one of the last chances for a number of players to prove their point to Maresca, with Noni Madueke impressing after finding the net for the third game in a row.

Another player who the manager highlighted for praise after the game was Christopher Nkunku, who has started every game of the summer after his injury woes last season.

Christopher Nkunku Chelsea’s best performer of pre-season

The Frenchman found the net three times too during the tour, and played in a number of roles as other players got their chance too.

With the underwhelming results that have arrived, it is fair to say that Nkunku has been Chelsea’s best performer of the summer on a regular basis.

To some fans, the Frenchman will feel like a new signing after hardly being able to feature in his debut campaign.

Nicolas Jackson yet to return from injury

Cole Palmer described him as ‘unlucky’ after what he went through last season, and he will no doubt be hungry to combine with the England international in the upcoming campaign.

There is a possibility that Nkunku begins the season up front, given the fact that Nicolas Jackson is yet to be seen in action this summer.

The Senegal international was expected to make his return to the squad last night against Madrid, however he was not even named on the bench for that game.

He has been seen back in training with the first team, however looks as if he is not yet ready to feature in match action.
