Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lingard struck in either half for Manchester United, as they recorded a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday. The Blues went in front through Willian, whose powerful effort went through David De Gea. The Belgian equalised for the home side, before Lingard’s second-half header meant Jose Mourinho took all three points against his former club. Here’s who impressed in Chelsea’s defeat yesterday:
3. N’Golo Kante
Kante didn’t have the best of performances against United, but the role he plays is vital in the Chelsea midfield. The Frenchman is known for how he breaks up opposition play, and the number of interceptions he makes, and yesterday was no exception. Full of energy as usual, he loved to make bursting runs forward and dictate the play. It wasn’t his best performance in a Chelsea shirt, but it’s typical Kante.
2. Danny Drinkwater
Perhaps a surprise to see Drinkwater make the top three this week. The Englishman’s style of play might not be the most eye-grabbing or flashy, but he made a very understated performance at Old Trafford. Up against his former club, Drinkwater was tenacious in closing down the ball, and made a number of great balls forward. Alongside his Leicester City title winning partner, Drinkwater seems his most comfortable, and didn’t look out of place in the Chelsea side.
1. Willian
Three games in a row Willian is the man of the match. It’s becoming a bit of a trend now. The Brazilian follows up his goal against Barcelona in midweek, with another one against a big side. Being found by a brilliant pass from Hazard, Willian fired his effort beyond De Gea. The goalkeeper might’ve done better in that situation, but the sheer power from his shot put it beyond the Spaniard. He was excellent again, and his form in recent weeks has been nothing short of exceptional. Long may it continue!
