Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has been speaking about the future of his player Antonio Rudiger – and some Blues fans on Twitter are convinced he’s dropped a clue that he’ll be leaving Stamford Bridge.

Rudiger, 28, has been one of the outstanding individuals at the London club in 2021. For certain, the German defender was rejuvenated by the appointment of Tuchel back in January.

As it stands, the £29million aggressive centre-back is out of contract next summer. It means that overseas clubs are free to talk with him in the New Year.

Tuchel was asked in his Friday press conference about how important it is that Rudiger’s Chelsea future is settled sooner rather than later.

“Yes and we know that. Of course it is pretty clear what we want but it is not like this in football that the coach wants something, or the club wants something and then it happens. We have to accept that sometimes there can be delays and things may take their time but I am very sure that Toni also feels how respected and what an important role he plays at the club,” Tuchel said.

“I think he is up for the toughest challenge in the Premier League, this is the toughest challenge, to win titles so he is a big part of a big club and I am sure he is aware of it.

“I am calm, I feel Toni is calm, I feel the situation is calm here inside and from here we go. I am happy that he plays like how he is and we need him at this kind of level.”

Update on Rudiger’s Chelsea future

Unfortunately, Tuchel was unable to give an insight into whether or not Rudiger is any closer to extending his contract beyond the end of the season.

The player himself recently said he’s happy and focused on his football with Chelsea, despite the fact there is uncertainty about his long-term future.

German giants Bayern Munich are linked with offering the centre-half a new home. Meanwhile, The Athletic said in October Rudiger wants his Chelsea salary doubled to £200,000-a-week before committing to a new deal.

Blues fans convinced he’s going

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media are not confident about keeping Rudiger after hearing the manager’s latest comments today.

They believe Tuchel has indicated there is still no movement on contract negotiations with the player, so there is a massive fear one of their most in-for players could be heading for the exit doors.
