'Actually ridiculous': Chelsea fans impressed by what Thiago Silva did against Liverpool
Some Chelsea fans on social media were left in awe by Thiago Silva’s incredible defensive awareness and effort during the League Cup final defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.
Alongside Edouard Mendy, Silva was arguably among the best players on the pitch in the game.
The Blues defended really well overall, but the 37-year-old’s performance was nearly impeccable.
He made three interceptions, one tackle, as well as 12 clearances during the game while pretty much playing as a deep-lying playmaker for Chelsea, having completed 11 long balls.
No Liverpool player managed to dribble past him in 120 minutes, which is incredible given the opposition forwards’ form.
My Europa League Predictions.
One moment, in particular, illustrated why Silva is such a key player for Chelsea.
Liverpool caught Chelsea on the counter after Mendy made an error from his kick and looked very close to taking the lead through Mohamed Salah.
Salah’s effort might have been going wide anyway, but Silva was not taking any chances.
It is incredible how the veteran centre-back was the only Chelsea player close enough to prevent the goal despite his starting his run from beyond the halfway line.
Some Blues fans on Twitter were truly impressed, to say the least.
Started behind Kante, Trev, and Kova..

Look at the determination to get the ball!
His birth certificate must have gotten it wrong..
He immediately recognizes the risk and anticipates the possibilities. He's basically doing this pic.twitter.com/HacDl0i9l8

Bailed out Mendy big time there after that distribution. Never underestimate the importance of experience. So lucky to have him. Get him to mentor Colwill next year. Desailly/Terry vibes.

His sense for danger and awareness is top notch, notice how Chalobah and Kovacic gave up, brilliant defending, experience at it's peak

He kept going….. he anticipated what was going to happen. Experience is a treasure.
