'Mount written all over': Chelsea fans react to their 21-year-old's display

‘Has Mount written all over it’: Some Chelsea fans react to what 21-year-old Chelsea youngster did for his country

A number of Chelsea players were in action last night for their countries – and some Blues fans on Twitter compared one of their youngsters to Mason Mount after watching him.

Conor Gallagher, 21, is a Chelsea talent to come through the club’s academy system at Cobham.

The box-to-box midfielder is thriving out on loan at Crystal Palace this season, which is why he was promoted to the senior England squad from the Under-21s by international manager Gareth Southgate.

He came off the bench on Monday night to earn his first England cap in the 10-0 demolition away to San Marino in a World Cup qualifier. For the Three Lions, they are now qualified for next year’s World Cup tournament after a comprehensive victory.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media hailed their loaned-out man Gallagher after yesterday’s performance.

One moment, in particular, caught the attention of fans.

Half-time substitute Gallagher produced a superb piece of skill midway through the second half that caused a San Marino red card and England goal.

First of all, the central midfielder superbly glided past two defenders after allowing the ball to roll through his legs, but Dante Rossi was shown a second yellow card for bringing him down. England then scored from the resulting free kick with a Tyrone Mings header.

Some Chelsea fans on Twitter believe Gallagher’s spin was Mount-esque.

Blues attacking midfielder Mason Mount, 22, is someone that Gallagher should be looking to replicate. Mount is now a key first teamer at Stamford Bridge after coming through the academy and thriving out on loan.

Gallagher’s now going to come under the spotlight even further after an England debut, so his next task is dealing with more eyes on him.

He needs to keep focusing on his loan with Crystal Palace, though, as it’s helped get him into this position.

Plenty of Chelsea fans are already excited about the prospect of him linking up with Thomas Tuchel’s squad, but the next few months will say a lot about Gallagher’s potential.

Pundit Ian Wright raved about the Chelsea youngster last night after beating San Marino. In addition, England teammate and Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings has called him “unbelievable”.
