'Hitting his best form': Some Chelsea fans loved their senior player's display in 5-1 FA Cup win

Chelsea cruised to victory against non-league opposition Chesterfield on Saturday evening – and some Blues fans on Twitter raved about the performance from their senior player Mateo Kovacic.

The Blues came through unscathed against minnows Chesterfield in the prestigious third round of the FA Cup. It was a comfortable 5-1 win against a side in the fifth tier of English football.

Timo Werner, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Romelu Lukaku and Andreas Christensen were all on the scoresheet in the first half. Also, Hakim Ziyech added a fifth from the penalty spot early in the second half.

In fairness, Chesterfield deserve big credit for their late consolation goal through Akwasi Asante on their trip to Stamford Bridge against the European champions.

Kovacic adored by Chelsea fans

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media hailed Kovacic for his weekend contribution.

The 27-year-old midfielder wore the captain’s armband against Chesterfield and played the opening 45 minutes before being replaced at half time.

He’s been in superb form since a return from injury and illness, taking no time readjusting to the pace of things.

There were plenty in the fanbase suggesting the Croatian now looks somewhere towards his best, while others loved seeing him in a more senior role as a leader.

He’ll surely play a crucial role moving forward in upcoming matches against both Tottenham and Manchester City.
