Borussia Dortmund were dumped out of the Champions League on Wednesday night after losing in Portugal – and some Chelsea fans on Twitter were celebrating the result due to the Erling Haaland saga from the summer.

Dortmund were beaten 3-1 last night away to Sporting Lisbon, which means they’ll drop down to the Europa League competition in the New Year.

German giants Dortmund have one game left in their Champions League group, but are unable to climb into the qualification positions.

In contrast, Chelsea beat Juventus 4-0 this week to reach the knockouts, with three different English goalscorers.

Chelsea fans poke fun at Dortmund

A selection of Blues supporters on social media were mocking the Bundesliga club after their Champions League exit.

For some Chelsea fans, they are still upset they didn’t sign Erling Haaland in the summer.

Haaland, 21, is a world-class centre-forward that is unfortunately out through injury right now. He did score 13 goals in just 10 appearances this season before his setback.

Chelsea, along with other clubs in Europe, were linked with the Dortmund striker in the summer months before he ended up staying where he was.

Sky Sports reported in July that Dortmund turned down an approach from Chelsea for Haaland. Instead, Thomas Tuchel’s Blues ended up signing Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan to reinforce their attacking department.

Haaland’s £150million-plus asking price (Athletic) in the summer ensured he stayed with Dortmund another season, but he’s got a release clause that becomes active at the end of this campaign worth £66.6million (Athletic).
