Conor Gallagher was in action last night for his loan club Crystal Palace – and some Chelsea fans on Twitter were wowed by their youngster’s performance.

Palace were beaten 1-0 on Tuesday night away to Leeds United in the Premier League, with Raphinha scoring a 93rd minute penalty for the hosts at Elland Road.

Gallagher, 21, continued in the centre of the park for Palace.

The box-to-box midfielder has made a superb impact in the last few months since joining Patrick Vieira’s side on a season-long loan from Chelsea.

He’s made several key attacking contributions during this campaign, but he showed against Leeds that he brings so much energy on and off the ball.

Chelsea fans applaud Gallagher

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media loved watching Gallagher last night in Premier League action.

Gallagher, who’s previously been described as one of the division’s best young players by Rio Ferdinand, is growing in stature each game. His recent England debut shows he’s on the right path and Chelsea must be delighted by what he’s achieving over at London rivals Palace.

He’s got the kind of work rate and passion that makes it easy to compare him to Blues first teamer Mason Mount. It would be a frightening prospect to face the duo if they lined up together next season at Stamford Bridge.

In addition, some Chelsea fans were comparing him to their central midfielder Mateo Kovacic yesterday. A lot of his game is based around dribbling, something Gallagher excels in.

Here are some Blues fans discussing Gallagher:

Don’t recall in January

Gallagher is improving on a weekly basis in a Palace shirt, so Chelsea shouldn’t be tempted to recall him from his loan in the New Year.

Thomas Tuchel’s squad is well stacked in the midfield department to cope for the rest of the 2021/22 season.

However, Gallagher should come into the reckoning next summer when he’s further along with his development.
