‘Should’ve started’: Some Chelsea fans react as 25-year-old is named on bench v Leicester
Chelsea have announced their starting line-up for today’s match against Leicester City – and some Blues fans on Twitter believe that Andreas Christensen is a little unfortunate to be named on the bench.
The Blues play away at the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon in a Premier League fixture against Leicester.
Thomas Tuchel has named his XI for the first game back after the international break.
Chelsea fans gutted about Christensen
A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media believe Danish defender Christensen should’ve been included today, but he’s had to make do with a spot on the bench.
The 25-year-old centre-back has been impressive whenever called upon under Tuchel and started in the club’s previous match on 6 November against Burnley.
However, he did play twice for Denmark during the international break.
Tuchel has put faith in the Chelsea trio of Trevoh Chalobah, Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger as the back-three against Leicester. It highlights just how much strength in depth there is in the squad at Stamford Bridge.
Here are some Chelsea fans discussing Christensen’s absence;
Head to head
Chelsea and Leicester were only separated by a point in the league table last season, the former finishing higher, so it’s no surprise to see the recent history between the teams is fairly level.
Chelsea have three wins, three draws and three defeats against the Foxes in the last nine meetings across all competitions.
Leicester do have the bragging rights of winning last season’s FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium. However, the Blues did pip them to a top four finish.
