‘Should’ve started’, ‘Terrible’: Some Chelsea fans react as £45m player is named on bench v Juventus

Chelsea have announced their starting line-up for tonight’s match against Juventus – and some Blues fans on Twitter are a little disappointed that Timo Werner is not in the XI.

Thomas Tuchel’s side face Juventus at 8pm on Tuesday night in a Champions League group stage match.

For Chelsea, they know a point will seal automatic qualification to the knockout rounds of Europe’s elite club competition. However, they can still beat tonight’s opponents to top spot in the group.

Tuchel has decided to make two changes from the starting XI that beat Leicester City 3-0 on Saturday in the Premier League.

Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic are promoted to the line-up. Meanwhile, Kai Havertz and Mason Mount drop out.

Chelsea fans gutted about Werner

A selection of Blues supporters on social media are not pleased that Werner is only on the bench against Juventus.

The 25-year-old attacker hasn’t played since October because of a hamstring injury, but was back on the bench as an unused substitute against Leicester City.

He was getting a run of starts before his injury setback, though.

The £45million speedster does frighten opponents on the pitch with his directness and pace, albeit the final ball is not always perfect.

Here are some Chelsea fans that feel Tuchel has missed a trick naming him on the bench tonight:

Head to head

Chelsea and Juventus have faced each other five times in the 21st century, including back in September when the Italian’s won 1-0.

Chelsea have just one victory during the five meetings. Didier Drogba’s goal gave the Blues a slender win back in February 2009.

Meanwhile, there has also been two draws and two wins for the Serie A giants.
