Callum Hudson-Odoi has been named in the Chelsea starting line-up against Southampton today – and some Blues fans on Twitter are over the moon with the decision from manager Thomas Tuchel to play him.
Tuchel has decided to shuffle his pack from the midweek Champions League defeat against Juventus. In fact, there are five changes to his starting line-up.
Hudson-Odoi, along with Trevoh Chalobah, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ben Chilwell and Timo Werner, have all come into the starting XI for the Premier League fixture at home to Southampton.
It looks like from the graphic in the club’s announcement that Hudson-Odoi will get a chance in the forward positions.
The 20-year-old speedster often has to fill in as a wing-back, but has been an attacking winger during his development.
He’s an exciting academy graduate that knows competition for places in attack is fierce, so it feels like he’s got to grab his opportunity against the Saints on Saturday.
Here are some Chelsea fans celebrating the Hudson-Odoi news:
Chelsea v Southampton recent head to head
Interestingly, Chelsea have found it difficult in recent encounters against the Saints.
The Blues have just one victory in the last five games against Southampton, which came back in October 2019. Southampton have one victory in the last five meetings, meaning the other three have ended in draws.
They couldn’t be separated in either of the Premier League fixtures last season, with 1-1 and 3-3 scorelines.
Chelsea are desperate to go into the international break with a win after two consecutive defeats, so it’s a brave line-up from Tuchel.
