‘Superb today’, ‘Baller’: Some Chelsea fans amazed by their teenager’s display in Under-23s victory
Xavier Mbuyamba starred for the Chelsea Under-23s side on Friday – and some Blues fans on Twitter were left amazed by the quality of their teenager’s performance.
The Blues beat Leeds United’s Under-23s team 3-1 today to pick up some much-needed points in the Premier League 2 division. In fact, the victory lifted Andy Myers’s Chelsea out of the bottom two in the league table.
Mbuyamba, 19, scored two headed goals for visitors Chelsea. In addition, Lewis Baker converted a penalty late on to make sure of the win away from home.
Chelsea fans applaud Mbuyamba
A selection of Blues supporters on social media believe Mbuyamba deserved a special mention after his two-goal display against Leeds. The dominant centre-half showed his presence in the air by netting headers from two set-pieces.
RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.
The strong Dutch centre-back joined the London club back in 2020, but his debut campaign last year was completely wrecked by injury. He’s been an ever-present for the Chelsea Under-23s this season, though.
In fairness, he’s had a few shaky defensive moments throughout this 2021/22 campaign. However, there are signs that the youngster is really starting to settle and grow into an important figure for the Under-23s.
He should take great inspiration from the way Trevoh Chalobah has forced his way into the first-team squad at Stamford Bridge this season, proving that senior boss Thomas Tuchel is willing to give youngsters a fair chance.
