Graham Potter has confirmed that Chelsea’s Mateo Kovacic may return to the side against Arsenal in tomorrow’s London derby.

There is a fascinating clash taking place at Sunday lunchtime at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea hosting Arsenal in the Premier League.

For the Blues, they’re outside the top four right now and need to bounce back from a heavy setback at Brighton last weekend.

Meanwhile, Arsenal sit top of the league table right now and may be starting to dream of a potential title bid.

It does feel like there’s not been so much riding on this fixture in a long time because a win for the Gunners would take them 13 points clear of Chelsea.

Kovacic may return against Arsenal

There’s been quite a significant bit of Chelsea injury news pre-match to lift spirits.

Blues coach Potter confirmed in yesterday’s press conference that Kovacic is in contention to feature against Arsenal

The 28-year-old midfielder was absent from training earlier in the week and didn’t make the match day squad for Wednesday’s win over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.

However, the £150,000-a-week star is ready to be selected on Sunday.

“Kovacic trained today, so he’s in contention [against Arsenal],” Potter said.

There’s no doubt the midfield battle between Chelsea and Arsenal will go a long way to decide the final result.

The Blues now have the likes of Kovacic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mason Mount and Jorginho to select from. Denis Zakaria should be in the manager’s thoughts after an impressive debut in midweek, too.

Meanwhile, Arsenal look very strong in the centre of the park with a settled trio of Martin Odegaard, Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey.
