Mason Mount is expected to miss at least two of Chelsea’s upcoming fixtures.

According to The Athletic, Mount will be side-lined for potentially a fortnight after suffering an ankle injury in the Club World Cup final last weekend.

Whilst Thomas Tuchel’s men celebrated their 2-1 victory over Palmeiras wildly, the England international had to rejoice rather gingerly.

He came off with just over 30 minutes on the clock and was spotted leaving the stadium on crutches.

Which matches could Mount miss?

This latest wound in the long list of damaged Chelsea soldiers will definitely cause the 23-year-old to sit out Saturday’s Premier League game against Crystal Palace.

Tuesday’s Champions League knockout tie with Lille has surely also come too early for Mount to feature in.

Surely the fixture he is most desperate to be recovered in time for is the Carabao Cup finale showdown with Liverpool later this month.

Although there are obvious concerns about whether he will be ready for the walkout at Wembley, the Athletic have helped ease the fears.

They claim that the damage is ‘not as bad as first feared’.

Ankles have induced plenty of pain to Tuchel’s team this season, especially Romelu Lukaku, who missed a large chunk of October and November through such an issue.

Chelsea have been down this road before

It seems, as The Athletic point out, that Mount’s newest snag is similar to the one he received in 2019.

After colliding with Francis Coquelin, the Chelsea forward leapt back into action just five days later.

Of course, the Blues will not risk such a swift turnaround on this occasion.

Fortunately, there is enough depth in attacking areas for Tuchel not to overly worry about this latest absentee.

Kai Havertz came up trumps with the winner in the Club World Cup showpiece event, whilst Lukaku has started to show form again in front of goal.

Rest easy, Mason, they’ve got you covered.
