Ruben Loftus-Cheek has reportedly returned to Chelsea training just in time for the double meeting with Manchester City.

According to football.london, the midfielder has overcome his minor injury and is working with Graham Potter’s squad once again.

Loftus-Cheek picked up a thigh problem just before the World Cup in the defeat to Newcastle United.

The 26-year-old only lasted a matter of minutes at Saint James’ Park before hobbling off the pitch.

He did travel to Abu Dhabi earlier this month with some of the first-team and a handful of academy graduates to continue his recovery, but not partake in any of the serious training.

Chelsea’s homegrown player did not travel with the senior squad to face Bournemouth of Nottingham Forest in the first two Premier League games post the international tournament.

Potter’s men picked up four points against the two promoted teams, yet were perhaps fortunate to leave the City Ground with a draw rather than a defeat.

They simply cannot afford a repeat performance on Thursday when they welcome Manchester City to Stamford Bridge.

Thankfully, it sounds like the Blues boss could have another midfield option in Loftus-Cheek to call-upon and possibly improve the side.

If he isn’t fit enough for the league tie versus Pep Guardiola’s gargantuans, then perhaps he will be fit for the follow up fixture with City in the FA Cup.
