Graham Potter has suggested that Chelsea’s Mason Mount could return from his injury this Sunday against Manchester City in the FA Cup.

Mount has made the joint-most appearances in the Chelsea squad so far this season (23), but he was forced to miss last night’s Premier League fixture at home to Man City.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder was absent from the Blues squad after picking up a knock in training.

Unfortunately, Potter’s side fell to another poor result in the league by losing 1-0 at Stamford Bridge on Thursday evening.

Riyad Mahrez’s second-half winner condemned Chelsea to their sixth league defeat of the campaign, leaving them 10th in the division table.

Mason Mount injury

Potter confirmed in his post-match press conference yesterday that there’s hope Mount’s injury could see him miss just one game.

The £80,000-a-week star may be available again for this weekend’s trip to the Etihad Stadium to play Man City in the third round of the FA Cup.

“Mason got a kick yesterday in training, again we’re hopeful for the weekend but it’s one of those things at the moment,” Potter said, as quoted by Football London.

Chelsea players are dropping like flies right now when it comes to injuries, with Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic both forced off with injuries during the first-half of yesterday’s game.

Mount’s absence from the squad was a shock to everyone on Thursday before his injury explanation.

It’s excellent news that the England international’s problem sounds like a minor one because his importance will only grow further with so many senior stars missing.
