Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has taken to Instagram to praise the performance of Enzo Fernandez on international duty last night.

He commented on the Chelsea man’s post with an emoji to insinuate he was magical after Argentina’s win last night.

Fernandez was part of the side who got qualification underway as they look to defend their World Cup in 2026.

His side picked up a 1-0 victory over a resolute Ecuador side, and he found himself coming up against a very familiar face in midfield.

Moises Caicedo lined up opposite the 22-year-old and certainly made his mark when coming up against the best player in the world in Lionel Messi.

Argentinian media made it clear that the Chelsea man started to have a greater impact last night when he was moved positions late in the game.

Martinez praises Fernandez

Despite that, he still did enough to impress teammate Martinez, who took to Instagram to state he was left very impressed with the Blue last night.

In a similar way to Fernandez, the goalkeeper has established himself as a key player for his country in recent times. He played a huge role in them winning the World Cup last December.

There have been brief links to the £17m man making a switch to Stamford Bridge, however that never came to fruition as the Blues went a different way in terms of goalkeepers.

They have added Robert Sanchez to their ranks, who has started every game for the club this season.

Kepa Arrizabalaga, who is currently on loan at Real Madrid, looks unlikely to return at any point after recent comments he made about the club.
