Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic received a damning rating from national media in the early hours of this mornng after his performance for the United States.

Pulisic, 23, was in action for his country in their World Cup qualifier against El Salvador. Fulham’s Antonee Robinson turned out to be the match-winner in a narrow 1-0 win for the US.

Chelsea attacker Pulisic lasted 65 minutes before being substituted off midway through the second half, handing the captain’s armband over to teammate Tyler Adams.

The left-winger’s club form isn’t where he’ll want it to be, scoring three goals in 19 appearances across all competitions so far this season for the Blues. Unfortunately, his latest display for his country showed signs of that spilling over into his international form.

National media CBS Sports ripped into the US captain by giving him a 4/10 match rating against El Salvador.

“Questionable passing decisions on the night, but did manage to put the ball in some dangerous spots. Finished with just one shot, which wasn’t on goal,” CBS Sports wrote.

Chelsea competition impacting Pulisic

It’s difficult for Pulisic to build up any real momentum in his game when he can’t get a consecutive run of starts that lasts eight or nine matches.

For Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, he’s got so many quality options in attack that he rotates freely at times.

Pundit Taylor Twellman suggested this week the winger looks like he’s got slower, which is a criticism that seems fair.

The 23-year-old needs something to kickstart some form. Hopefully, the United States captain gets a chance in upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Canada and Honduras in the next week.
