Chelsea’s Kai Havertz has received praise for his performance in Germany’s final World Cup warm-up game against Oman.
Hansi Flick’s side stumbled to a 1-0 win in Muscat, failing to impress as a whole less than a week before the tournament.
The Blues man was operated in the Number 10 role last night, a position he is rarely given a chance in at Stamford Bridge.
However, it has been claimed before that Chelsea fans may begin to see the best of the 23-year-old if he operates in that role more.
The difference in quality he brings in that role compared to as a striker was obvious in the Nations League game against England.
After being a passenger in the first half up front, he scored twice after dropping deeper after half-time, including a sensational strike to open the scoring.
Havertz impresses for Germany
Last night, he was praised for his part in the win by Bavarian Football Works.
They said: “Operating as the No. 10, the Chelsea forward looked pretty composed and quality throughout — even if, like many of his teammates, it was far less crisp than it needed to be.
“Havertz drifted across the pitch and provided smooth service to his teammates. He doesn’t look like a singular difference-maker — yet — but can be a creative danger man who also helps tactically by being able to add to overloads wherever they are needed.”
Havertz is likely to start when the Germans get their World Cup underway next week against Japan.
In a group of death with Spain, they will be under pressure to get points on the board early in order to not repeat their embarrassing fate of the last World Cup.
With Havertz assisting Niclas Fullkrug last night, he could appear behind him when the competition gets underway.
