TalkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara has slammed Gareth Southgate’s decision to call-up Chelsea players Mason Mount and Conor Gallagher for the upcoming international break.

The midfielders are two of the four Blues who will be representing England in the Euro 2024 qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine.

Flying wing-back duo Reece James and Ben Chilwell have also been selected, despite only just returning from long-term injuries.

Raheem Sterling was not selected for this squad after Southgate claimed his current injury is going to not allow him to be fully fit.

The midfield duo though have struggled for minutes in recent weeks. Mount has not featured in any of Chelsea’s three consecutive wins in the last few weeks.

O’Hara slams Mount and Gallagher decision

Gallagher meanwhile has found his role as a second half impact substitute, with him replacing the likes of Joao Felix when their job is done.

Despite their obvious talents, their lack of starts in recent weeks has frustrated O’Hara as to why they both players, who represented their country at the World Cup, are in the first international squad since the tournament.

He said: “You might as well call it England FC. Because I’m sick and tired of seeing the same players picked for England who don’t even play for their clubs. They don’t play. It’s outrageous.

“Eric Dier plays, he gets in the team, I don’t know how based on his performance. Conor Gallagher and Mason Mount are not playing, they’re not playing. What is the point in trying your best for your club if you ain’t got no chance of getting in the England squad?”

Despite the lack of gametime for the Blues, fellow midfielder Kalvin Phillips is in the squad despite playing less than 90 minutes in the Premier League this season, and surely his call-up should be more disputed.
