Scotland boss Steve Clarke has raved about the quality of Chelsea prospect Billy Gilmour on the ball.
Gilmour, who’s an emerging talent owned by Chelsea, is spending the current 2021/22 season out on loan.
The 20-year-old midfielder is playing for Dean Smith’s Norwich City, who are in the thick of a relegation battle down the bottom end of the Premier League.
He’s not always been a nailed-on starter at club level for Norwich, but there is no doubt he’s a crucial figure within the Scotland set-up.
The youngster started and impressed on Thursday night during a 1-1 draw for his country against Poland. He even received an impressive 8/10 match rating for his individual performance.
International manager Clarke has highlighted the quality of Chelsea-owned central midfielder Gilmour:
“It’s good having these young players. Gilmour and Nathan Patterson played on Thursday, young Aaron Hickey came off the bench as well. We have a good age so this group of players can go for another two, three or four tournaments if they want. That is fantastic for the future,” Clarke said.
“Billy and Callum (McGregor) are two really good footballers on the ball. We always try to play anyway, that’s what we have always tried to do. But when you have two players like that in midfield you have to give them the ball otherwise there’s no point in playing them.”

Next Jorginho
Hopefully, the Blues already own a successor to current first-team star Jorginho.
Youngster Gilmour is a very technically gifted midfielder that’s impressed so many with how comfortable he is on the ball.
He’s got a full range of passing, too. And it’s quite the achievement at his age to be suc an important player in a senior international side.
Jorginho is such a vital part of the squad at Stamford Bridge given the stability he brings to the team as a deep-lying playmaker, which is a role Gilmour can emulate further down the line.
