Chelsea fans were really impressed after tuning in and watching Romelu Lukaku play in tonight’s Champions League semi-final.

Romelu Lukaku, who’s still owned by Chelsea, is currently playing his football during a season-long loan with Inter Milan.

There was a historic European tie taking place on Wednesday evening, which saw AC Milan and Inter Milan face off at the San Siro in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals.

Inter secured a deserved 2-0 victory on the night to take control of the tie and establish them as firm favourites to make the final. Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, two players with Premier League experience, scored first-half goals to leave the blue half of Milan in very good spirits.

Lukaku will have been disappointed to be left out of the starting line-up in midweek. However, he certainly didn’t moan and made a really positive impact as a second-half substitute for Inter.

The Belgian striker came on in the 70th minute and really helped his team reestablish some control.

Some Chelsea supporters will argue the 29-year-old forward struggled last season at Stamford Bridge in holding the ball up and bringing others into play, but that’s exactly what he did tonight in the Milan derby.

It’s pretty obvious that he looks so much more comfortable in Italy than in England.

Gazzetta dello Sport recently claimed that Mauricio Pochettino plans to build his Chelsea team around Lukaku when he returns from his loan in the summer.

We really doubt this is something that will unfold. He did remind everyone in a snippet tonight that he’s still got big quality, though.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on Twitter waxed lyrical about the cameo performance from Lukaku on the Champions League stage.

We doubt the Inter manager will be tempted to change a winning starting line-up for the second leg, but he knows he’s got some serious firepower in reserve on the bench.
