Chelsea reportedly have the option to recall youngster Billy Gilmour from his current loan deal at Norwich City. However, this is not something in their thoughts right now.

The 20-year-old has fallen out of favour recently at Carrow Road, which has left many Blues supporters frustrated that their upcoming talent isn’t playing regularly. Some fans recently claimed they want him back at Stamford Bridge as soon as possible.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea have the option in the New Year to trigger a break clause that would cut short his season-long loan at Premier League rivals Norwich.

The report explains that Thomas Tuchel’s side are not “alarmed” by the central midfielder’s situation, though. Therefore, they are not currently contemplating ending his loan prematurely.

If the Scotland internatonal was recalled in the January window, it is understood several clubs would be keen to snap him up.

Billy Gilmour must persist with loan for next two months at least

For Gilmour, he needs to work hard to get back into the Norwich XI.

The ball-playing midfielder is a supreme talent that is a regular for his country and he needs to try replicate the same kind of form for his club.

In fairness, he’s started half of Norwich’s opening eight Premier League games. It’s difficult for the entire squad given they are bottom of the table still without a win.

He can’t play on Saturday against parent club Chelsea, but his Norwich career isn’t over by a long stretch.

If his situation doesn’t improve, the Blues hierarchy need a serious conversation about his future. For Gilmour, he can be focused on what he does on the pitch.
