Pundit Karen Carney has noticed that one Chelsea player looked gutted at full-time tonight of Chelsea’s EFL Cup quarter-final against Newcastle.

She told Sky Sports that midfielder Enzo Fernandez looked really upset after the full-time whistle, despite the fact that the Blues pulled off a dramatic victory on penalties.

The Blues looked as if they were heading out of the cup tonight, and therefore giving up one of their best chances at silverware this season.

However, Mykhailo Mudryk pounced on a late error by Kieran Trippier to equalise in the final moments, forcing the game to a penalty shootout.

There, Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku, Conor Gallagher and Mudryk were perfect from the spot to help the Blues through to the semi-finals.

One player who was not even involved in the shootout was Fernandez, after he was forced off in the first half.

Fernandez upset at full-time

It soon emerged after his substitution that he had been forced off the pitch due to illness, with it hopefully not being a long period of time out.

However, footage emerged after the game of him close to tears, perhaps suggesting this wouldn’t be the case.

Carney noticed this, saying: “He looks upset there Enzo, hopefully it isn’t serious or an injury or anything.”

The Argentine had been rested last weekend against Sheffield United, although he was brought back in alongside Moises Caicedo tonight.
