Gary Neville could not believe what he saw from Reece James during one moment in Chelsea’s fiery London derby with Tottenham Hotspur.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side were in full control towards the end of the first half after Cristian Romero’s red card.
But Reece James could have been dismissed as well after a high elbow just before the end of the first 45 minutes, with Gary Neville describing that moment as “absolute madness” while commentating on the game for Sky Sports (06/11/2023 at 20:58).

The 23-year-old was making his first Premier League start since returning from a hamstring injury he picked up at the beginning of the season.
Madness from Reece James
Neville was not impressed with James, with Chelsea in full control of the game and the right-back now being the club’s captain.
Commentating on the match for Sky Sports, the Manchester United legend said: “What is he doing, Reece James? The captain of Chelsea. Absolute madness.”
Reece James an inexperienced captain
It was reckless from James and you can argue that, as club captain, he needs to be cooler and avoid taking such risks.
However, the England international is still young and was only made skipper in the summer.
Still, James has to learn, as on another day he may not have got away with it.

Pochettino will just be glad that he has him back, though, as he is obviously such an important player for this Chelsea team.
James is currently being linked with a move to Real Madrid, but the Blues have to do everything in their power to keep hold of him.
And with the Chelsea captain having signed a new long-term deal not too long ago, they should be able to for the time being.
Next up for James and Chelsea is another tough Premier League game, with Pochettino’s side hosting Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
