Alan Smith shares what Nicolas Jackson is really good at after watching him in Chelsea’s win vs Bournemouth

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson was unable to score in his side’s 1-0 win against Bournemouth on Saturday.

However, Alan Smith still liked what he was seeing from Nicolas Jackson during the game at the Vitality Stadium.

The 23-year-old was eventually substituted for Christopher Nkunku, who went on to score the match-winner for Chelsea. His goal was set up by Jadon Sancho, who dazzled Chelsea supporters with his debut.

Smith, though, had some praise for Jackson during the Blues’ 1-0 win against Andoni Iraola’s men.

What did Alan Smith say about Nicolas Jackson?

Since arriving at Chelsea from Villarreal last summer, Jackson has shown that he is not the most clinical striker.

The Senegal international had a few good chances against Bournemouth on Saturday that he could not convert.

Off the ball, though, he can do some impressive stuff. For Smith, that includes making dangerous runs.

“He does make some good runs,” the former Arsenal striker said on Sky Sports (14/09/2024 at 20:33). “Gives his teammate a target.”

Darren Bent wants to see Jackson on the left, but with the amount of natural wide options Enzo Maresca currently has, it would be a surprise if he was used there this season.

Chelsea could be tempted to sign Jhon Duran in January to challenge Nicolas Jackson

Chelsea were interested in signing Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran in the last transfer window.

Chelsea had conversations about signing Duran on deadline day, but nothing came from them in the end.

The 20-year-old remained at Villa and has made a fantastic start to the season, scoring an incredible winning goal against Everton on Saturday.

It is his third Premier League goal this term, which is impressive, given that Duran is actually yet to start a game for Villa.

If he keeps this up, it would not be a surprise to see Chelsea go back in for him in January as they look to provide Jackson with serious competition.

Until then, Nkunku, despite not being a recognised centre-forward, is likely to be Jackson’s main competitor for the No.9 spot.
