Paul Merson highlighted Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher as a real positive during the home win against Sheffield United.

Chelsea kept their nerve on Saturday afternoon to beat strugglers Sheffield United 2-0 in the Premier League.

There’s no doubt that the pressure has been building on Mauricio Pochettino’s side because of some poor result lately, but they got the job done today against bottom of the league.

Cole Palmer opened the scoring with his sixth goal for the club. Nicolas Jackson got on the scoresheet, too.

Paul Merson impressed

Speaking moments into the second-half, Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson did give a special mention to Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher.

“Gallagher has probably been Chelsea’s best player so far,” Merson told Sky Sports (4:10pm).

Chelsea went on to score twice shortly after and saw the game out fairly comfortably, but Gallagher rightfully got praise for his efforts.

The 23-year-old Blues midfielder put in a classic performance of his with a lot of work rate and enthusiasm to lift his teammates.

It was another industrious performance from Gallagher on the weekend that we very much enjoyed.

WhoScored gave him a 7.70 match rating for Saturday’s efforts. They recorded he made four interceptions, and had a 98% passing accuracy.

Gallagher and Moises Caicedo both looked the part in Chelsea’s midfield, with Enzo Fernandez starting from the bench.

We’ll add it’ll be a much tougher challenge in the centre of the park when the Blues host Newcastle United on Tuesday night in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
