Enzo Maresca decided to hand Jamie Gittens another start for Chelsea in the Premier League against Brentford, and Blues fans have reacted to his performance.
Maresca’s side looked as if they had relied on second half heroics to secure a 2-1 win across West London, however were pegged back by a 94th minute equaliser via a long throw.
It was substitute Cole Palmer, who was very much not at 100% in his return from injury, who fired home a great finish to level the game just five minutes after his arrival.
With just minutes to go, Moises Caicedo lashed home what the Blues thought would be a winner with a devastating strike from distance, however they could not hold on in the final moments.
Gittens, who was replaced by Palmer, has not enjoyed the most prolific start to life in a Chelsea shirt, especially when compared to how fellow new additions Estevao Willian and Joao Pedro have started at their new club.

Chelsea fans react to Jamie Gittens’ performance vs Brentford
Blues fans believe that unfortunately this trend continued when the Englishman was handed a start against Brentford.
One user said: “Really struggling to see how Gittens is a 50M player and how he offers anything different to what we already had and/or moved on in the summer.”
Another added: “Gittens is at least a level below his teammates. shouldn’t start another game soon.”
A third stated: “Gittens isn’t better than George and significantly worse than Garnacho. You would’ve thought it’s his first appearance from the academy.”
Another user claimed: “Gittens will probably come good but clear right now he’s not up to speed and on the same wavelength as everyone else. Too many potential wingers and not enough proven quality.”
Finally, one user said: “Gittens is so irritating to watch wow.”
Gittens’ underwhelming stats vs Brentford
In just his second Premier League start of the season, the numbers are not exactly pointing to a performance which will have lifted him in Maresca’s thinking.
| Jamie Gittens vs Brentford | Total |
| Minutes | 56 |
| Shots | 1 |
| Chances Created | 1 |
| Duels Won | 1/3 |
| Fouls committed | 1 |
The performance of Alejandro Garnacho off the bench will have been a real positive for Maresca, and leaves him a choice to make when it comes to team selection against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
He will also be hoping to welcome Estevao Willian back into his plans soon, after Maresca confirmed Estevao was ill ahead of the Brentford clash.
