Chelsea Ladies vs Everton Ladies Preview

Chelsea Ladies aim to get back to winning ways on Sunday afternoon after losing a tight game in the Continental Cup last weekend. They welcome Everton Ladies to Kingsmeadow who must be weary of the expected onslaught from Chelsea as they look to hit back from the disappointment of losing a Semi Final.

Although their domestic unbeaten run is over, Chelsea, as well as Man City, are the only teams who remain unbeaten in the league. Chelsea will aim to preserve that record against the team that is second bottom of the table.

WSL 2 holders Everton have found it tough to adjust to the top division but will be encouraged by their most recent matches. After losing their first four fixtures, Everton have managed to put points on the board and have now won 2 of their last 3 games. This little upturn in fortunes includes an emphatic 5-1 victory over Sunderland Ladies who are above them in 5th. Their last league fixture did end in defeat but the Evertonians can take confidence in the fact they put in a batting display away from home and can be considered unlucky not to have taken anything from the game.

Both of Chelsea’s games so far in 2018 have been hard fought, energy sapping end to end battles that have only been decided by the odd goal. This start to the year has been a polar opposite to how they ended last year and Emma Hayes and her team know that the second half of the season won’t be as comfortable as the first half was. It will be important to get the early goal in this game and make sure they keep control of the ball to avoid another hectic fixture.

As the teams have not been in the same division for a while, there are not any recent meetings between the two clubs. The last time they did compete in the same division was in 2014 and on the two occasions they did face off; Chelsea were victors.
