‘Did well’: Ollie Watkins impressed with what one Chelsea player did against him today

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins was impressed with Levi Colwill’s block against him in his side’s 1-0 win against Chelsea earlier today.

Watkins was still able to score in the end, but Levi Colwill did well to block the 27-year-old’s initial shot.

“The defender did well to block the first shot but then it fell to me and I hit it quite cleanly,” Watkins was quoted as saying by BBC Sport after the game.

The England international’s strike condemned Chelsea to their third defeat of the season in another blow to Mauricio Pochettino.

It means his side have taken just five points from their first six matches, an extremely underwhelming return.

Levi Colwill not the problem

While Colwill and the rest of Chelsea’s defence conceded in the defeat to Villa and looked really vulnerable at times when they were attacked by Moussa Diaby, the English youngster and his team-mates at the back are not the problem at Stamford Bridge right now.

The Blues’ biggest issue is clear for everyone to see. They do not score goals.

Malo Gusto’s red card changed the game, but even if the Frenchman had not been sent off, the Blues still probably would not have scored and their recent fixtures back that theory up.

Chelsea blanked against Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest before their encounter with Villa. How many people were confident that the goals would flow in for them versus Unai Emery’s side today? Not a lot, if any at all.

How does Pochettino go about fixing this? Maybe the transfer window, but Chelsea’s critics will be quick to point out that most of their recent signings have failed to deliver and help the team improve.
