Chelsea were impressive all over the pitch in their 2-1 win over Liverpool, however two players in particular surprised former Blue Frank Leboeuf.

Estevao Willian took all the plaudits after his last-minute winner at Stamford Bridge, however there was praise for a number of individuals for their performances.

Gary Neville loved Moises Caicedo’s display, labelling him as the best midfielder in the Premier League at this moment in time.

There was also a lot of praise for the defence, especially with the injury concerns Enzo Maresca is dealing with. Levi Colwill, Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana and Tosin Adarabioyo were all unavailable for selection.

Frank Leboeuf ‘surprised’ by Benoit Badiashile and Josh Acheampong

This left Benoit Badiashile and Josh Acheampong as the starting centre-backs, playing together at the back for the first time for Chelsea.

The pair marshalled Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike well, limiting the very expensive Liverpool frontline to very few chances.

Leboeuf admitted he was surprised at how competent the duo were at the back, praising them for how they worked together.

He said: “I was very surprised by Benoit Badiashile and Josh Acheampong. Very strong, organised, talking and covering for each other. They were absolutely outstanding.”

Unfortunately for Chelsea, both players were forced off during the game due to injuries, leaving them even shorter for options at the back.

The Blues finished the game with Reece James and Jorrel Hato at centre-back, making it four full-backs on the pitch against the champions.

Badiashile and Acheampong injury updates

Maresca must have been cursing his luck when he saw both his centre-backs forced off with injuries during the game, however the reports after the game suggested it may not be such bad news.

Chelsea are hopeful the pair are okay, with them feeling something in the moment rather than anything which could be serious.

Both remained on the bench when they were substituted, and were on the pitch at full-time to celebrate with their teammates.

An international break could come at the best time as they look to protect the stricken squad, with them both now having two weeks without any action.
