Chelsea’s Levi Colwill endured a very challenging night during yesterday’s match against Championship club Middlesbrough.
Chelsea slipped to a 1-0 defeat away to Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup semi-finals. Fortunately, it’s a two-legged tie and they’ll have a chance to come from behind in the second leg at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues went into Tuesday night’s cup clash with 12 players unavailable, but there should have been enough quality on the pitch still to get a result.
Levi Colwill yet again reminded everyone that he’s not a left-back with a poor display.
The 20-year-old centre-back has been covering at full-back for most of the season due to injuries in the squad, but he just looks uncomfortable in wide areas whenever he’s being challenged by pace and trickery.

TalkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy wasn’t impressed by Colwill’s performance this week.
He claims that Boro star Isaiah Jones was all over the Chelsea youngster and tormented him. In fairness, the 24-year-old right wing-back sprinted past Colwill several times and assisted Boro’s match-winning goal.
Cundy told talkSPORT: “Jones has got Colwill on toast in the first-half. Colwill had a really tricky first-half. He got booked. He’s not a left-back. We don’t have a fit left-back that’s the problem.
“The only other answer is if you play Colwill at centre-half alongside Silva, Disasi right-back, then Gusto left-back.”
Levi Colwill against Middlesbrough
We’ve seen this kind of display from Colwill already this season, where it’s blatantly clear that he’s not a natural at left-back.
Our feeling is that he’s still got a huge future at the club playing as a centre-half, but we must be close breaking his confidence with these stints at full-back.
Hopefully, Ben Chilwell is soon available to play as he’s the obvious option to takeover the left-back role. The Evening Standard notes that Chilwell’s back in full team training and could return to action this month.
