I was at Stamford Bridge and saw ‘talented’ Inter Milan player prove Chelsea should have signed him

Chelsea ended their pre-season with a 1-1 draw against Inter Milan, but had the Blues signed one player from Simone Inzaghi’s team whom they looked at in the past, it could have been a different scoreline.

Inter Milan took the lead in the 26th minute through Marcus Thuram and were only seconds away from winning the game until Lesley Ugochukwu popped up in the 90th minute and equalised for Chelsea.

It was a game that Chelsea easily could have won, with Enzo Maresca‘s side having plenty of chances. It showed why they probably need a new striker, which they should be getting very soon.

Chelsea are going to sign Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid following the acquisition of Pedro Neto, but if the Blues recruited one of Inter’s stars when they had the chance to, it is unlikely that they would be in the market for a centre-forward right now.

Chelsea were interested in signing Marcus Thuram

Back in the 2023 January transfer window, Chelsea were heavily linked with Thuram when he was still at Borussia Monchengladbach.

In fact, it was claimed that Chelsea were in talks to sign Thuram but, in the end, the forward ended up staying at Gladbach before joining Inter on a free transfer months later.

There, Thuram helped Inzaghi’s men to win the 2023/24 Serie A title after coming up with 20 goal contributions in 35 appearances.

Ultimately, what was Chelsea’s loss proved to be Inter’s gain, and when the two sides met at Stamford Bridge earlier, he arguably showed why the former should have signed him or done more to land his signature.

Marcus Thuram’s performance in Chelsea vs Inter Milan

Standing at 6’4″, Thuram looks like the perfect Premier League centre-forward, and he really used his height and strength in Inter’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

The France international held the ball up extremely well, having no trouble with laying it off to his team-mates and connecting with them.

And, of course, when Thuram got his chance in front of goal, he made no mistake, managing to bury his chance against Robert Sanchez.

“A very talented player,” former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was quoted as saying by the Bundesliga’s official website when speaking about the former Gladbach star.

All in all, as Chelsea try to add a new centre-forward to their squad, Thuram, who can also play out wide, really looks like one who got away.
