Former Chelsea player Jason Cundy thinks Mykhailo Mudryk absolutely terrified Aston Villa today.
Mykhailo Mudryk was making his second start of the season and was really threatening in the first half of Chelsea’s encounter with Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.
Commentating on the game for Chelsea’s official website, Cundy said: “They’re very much, Ben, they are really worried about Mudryk, really worried because Matty Cash and John McGinn, the pair of them out of possession, they’re a double act.”
The 22-year-old has struggled at the Blues since joining them from Shakhtar Donetsk in January.
He is yet to score a goal for Chelsea, but his performances against Villa this afternoon and Bournemouth last weekend have been encouraging.
Mauricio Pochettino should stick with Mykhailo Mudryk
Pochettino started the season using Ben Chilwell on the left side of Chelsea’s attack but has turned to Mudryk in the last couple of games.
From what the Ukrainian has shown in those two matches, the Argentine should continue to persist with him.
And if a time to drop Mudryk does come, he should be benched for another attacker like Cole Palmer or Noni Madueke and not Chilwell, who is obviously a full-back by trade and not a forward player.
Mudryk has had his struggles, but the Ukraine international does have a lot of talent, with his former manager Graham Potter believing his “quality” is there for everyone to see.
Chelsea supporters are starting to see it a bit more now and hopefully that continues and the winger can become a more productive player for Pochettino’s side.
Just 22 years of age, the former Shakhtar man still has more than enough time to become a success in west London.
