‘Little unsettled’: Gary Neville shares what he noticed about £25m Chelsea player vs Arsenal

Gary Neville was not too convinced by Robert Sanchez’s performance in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal earlier.

Robert Sanchez was at fault for the Gunners’ first goal after playing a poor pass, but Neville, commentating on the game for Sky Sports (21/10/2023 at 18:10), felt the goalkeeper was a bit nervy even before his mistake.

Before the match, Sanchez had impressed for Chelsea following his £25m arrival from Brighton & Hove Albion (BBC Sport).

The Spaniard recently won Premier League Save of the Month for September.

Robert Sanchez unsettled

Neville felt that Sanchez had more than one shaky moment during the match.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the former Manchester United defender said: “One Chelsea player that’s just looked a little unsettled is the goalkeeper Sanchez — a couple of nervy moments.”

Robert Sanchez’s mistake cost Chelsea in Arsenal draw

Sanchez’s error for Declan Rice’s goal was the turning point in the game. Chelsea were practically in full control until that moment.

It would not be fair to blame everything on the 25-year-old. Mauricio Pochettino’s men had opportunities to make it 3-0, while Malo Gusto probably has to take some responsibility for Arsenal’s equaliser after some questionable defending at the back post.

Still, had Sanchez not made that mistake for the Gunners’ first goal, then it is likely that Chelsea would have finished the game with all three points.

Again, though, the former Brighton man has impressed overall since arriving to the point where pundit Karen Bardsley has been surprised by his impact in west London.

With that in mind, then, we do not think Chelsea supporters should be too harsh on their goalkeeper. He has definitely done more good than bad. And as mentioned earlier, others also need to take some responsibility for the collapse that happened in SW6 today.

It is another London derby for the Blues next Saturday, this time against Brentford, and hopefully they can claim all three points from the fixture.
