Chelsea managed to pick up their first win of pre-season under Enzo Maresca after beating Club America 3-0.

Christopher Nkunku, Marc Guiu and Noni Madueke all managed to get themselves on the scoresheet, and Enzo Maresca has now claimed one of his goalscorers is perfect for his system.

It is a performance that the new Chelsea manager will be extremely happy with after watching his side lose 4-1 to Celtic last weekend.

After that game, Maresca explained the problem the Chelsea defence had, but it is something that they seemed to fix in the Club America win.

However, they will be tested again when the Blues take on Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday.

Enzo Maresca in love with Christopher Nkunku

Maresca has not been working with Nkunku for very long, but the Italian says he already loves the forward.

Speaking to the media after the Club America game, Maresca shared that he was already aware of Nkunku before coming to Chelsea.

The 44-year-old said: “I knew Nkunku before I joined and I love him. He can play in the pocket, as a nine and winger. He’s a very good fit for this system.”

Nkunku’s penalty was his third goal of pre-season. Maresca will now be hoping that the £52m France international can stay fit after all of his injury issues last term.

While he can play out wide, Nkunku has admitted he prefers being in the middle, where he can be more heavily involved in games.

Christopher Nkunku and Marc Guiu Chelsea’s standout attackers so far

Understandably, Chelsea are not at their best right now. It is still pre-season and they have only played three games.

Nkunku and Guiu, though, have looked pretty sharp and have arguably been the best two attackers on the Blues’ tour so far.

Maresca said that Guiu would stay with him this summer, and if the 18-year-old keeps performing the way he has been, then it could make sense to keep him at Stamford Bridge instead of loaning him out.

It just depends on whether Chelsea sign another striker or not as the club continue to be linked with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.
