BBC pundit Adrian Mariappa was left blown away by one Chelsea player during Sunday’s win against Bournemouth on the final day of the season.
Chelsea rounded up their Premier League campaign with a 2-1 victory at home to Bournemouth, which is a result that secured a sixth-placed finish in the division table.
The Blues finish sixth after putting together an impressive five-game winning streak to finish their 2023/24 season.
Moises Caicedo opened the scoring versus Bournemouth in stunning fashion. In what was his first goal for Chelsea, the midfielder scored a memorable long-range strike with a shot that he took from just in front of the halfway line.
Raheem Sterling put the hosts 2-0 in front shortly after half-time by netting his 10th goal of the season across all competitions.
Despite Benoit Badiashile’s own goal in the 49th minute, Chelsea held on for a vital result to secure sixth place.

BBC pundit amazed by Chelsea star vs Bournemouth
Adrian Mariappa was wowed by the quality of Chelsea’s Caicedo after his wonder-strike against Bournemouth on the final day.
The 22-year-old midfielder has come into his own in recent months with combative performances in the centre of the park. He showed his technical ability with the goal from distance this weekend, too.
“It’s a sensational finish from Caicedo, it really is. I’m sure they have already had their goal of the season awards but that would have been right up there as a contender,” Mariappa told BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra (4:22pm, 19 May).
Moises Caicedo and Blues in Europe next season
Caicedo and his Chelsea teammates now know they’ll be in Europe next season after finishing sixth. However, they’ll have to wait for the FA Cup final between Manchester City and Manchester United to learn which competition they enter.
If Man City win the cup final, Chelsea will go into the Europa League. If Man United win the final, Chelsea go into next season’s Europa Conference League.
Either way, Pochettino’s side have battled back so well in the last few months and found real consistency as the young team continues to gel.
The Chelsea Chronicle believes that the upturn in form from central midfielder Caicedo has been pivotal. He’s now showing he’s the kind of player to build around.
