Cole Palmer was once again at the centre of things in Chelsea’s Premier League encounter with Newcastle United earlier.

Chelsea almost took the lead at the start of the game after Cole Palmer found the back of the net with a nice finish, but his goal was ruled out after he was caught marginally offside.

Eventually, the attacking midfielder did help the Blues to go in front after he played an incredible pass to Pedro Neto, who then set up Nicolas Jackson.

Eddie Howe warned Newcastle about Palmer before the match, but they could not do anything about his brilliance.

Alan Smith stunned by Cole Palmer pass

While Palmer did not directly assist Jackson, former Arsenal striker Alan Smith was still very impressed with his role in the goal, almost being left speechless.

Commentating on Chelsea’s clash against Newcastle for Sky Sports (27/10/2024 at 14:18), Smith said: “He won’t get the assist, but it is one of the passes of the season so far! Perfectly weighted.”

Paul Merson felt Palmer was quiet against Liverpool last Sunday, but the 22-year-old certainly saw plenty of the ball at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

Chelsea face Newcastle again next week, travelling to St James’ Park for a Carabao Cup tie.

Cole Palmer’s arsenal

Understandably, Palmer has come in for a lot of praise for his goalscoring ability. This season, he has scored seven goals for Chelsea, while last term, the England international netted 25 times.

However, as Palmer showed against Newcastle, he also has an incredible pass in his locker.

All in all, since arriving at Chelsea from Manchester City last year, Palmer has proven to be the complete attacker.

He can score goals, create them and play in more than one offensive position. Enzo Maresca will be desperate for him to stay fit for the whole season.

He has had some rest this term and will continue to get more, with Chelsea not registering Palmer for the league phase of the Conference League.
