Former Chelsea player Jason Cundy thinks referee Jarred Gillett’s decision to send Malo Gusto off against Aston Villa this afternoon was a terrible one.
Gillett initially handed Malo Gusto a yellow card in the second half but changed it to a red after a VAR review, a decision Cundy did not agree with.
Discussing Gusto’s sending off on commentary for Chelsea’s official website, Cundy said: “I don’t think that’s a red. He wins the ball. Honestly, that is not a red card. It’s a terrible decision, it’s a terrible decision.”

The 20-year-old’s suspension will now come as a big blow to Mauricio Pochettino, who is without his other right-back Reece James because of injury.
It will now be interesting to see who takes Gusto’s place in the team while the French youngster is out.
Minor setback for Malo Gusto
Gusto will be disappointed with his red card and it probably cost Chelsea in the end, with Villa making the most of their one-man advantage.
The former Lyon man is still young and was doing quite well in a blue shirt up until that point.

Offensively, Gusto has looked quite lively, even managing to register a couple of assists in the Blues’ 3-0 win against Luton Town last month.
Chelsea as a whole, though, have been poor, especially in attack, with Pochettino’s team just unable to score goals at the minute.
Red cards in their games are not going to help, but Chelsea failed to score before Gusto’s dismissal and you really have to wonder if they actually would have found the back of the net had he remained on the pitch. Based on what they have shown this season, probably not.
